1555 Wabash
One of the most promising residential buildings going up in the South Loop is 1555 Wabash. Located at 1555 S. Wabash, just a bit north of 16th Street on the west edge of the Central Station district, the building is a contemporary high-rise condo tower going up as a joint venture overseen by New West Realty. 1555 reaches 14 stories into the sky and will offer 176 units for sale to potential Chicago homebuyers, which will probably sell out quickly, as did New West’s other area project Lakeside Tower at 16th Street and Indiana.
1555 Wabash has a few different floor plans for its units that home shoppers can pick from that fit the current demand for luxury living in the South Loop, including one-bedroom, one-bedroom-plus-den, and two-bedroom options. There are also a limited number of three-bedroom penthouses. The units feature the kind of amenities and finishes that downtown residents have grown accustomed to, like 10-foot ceilings, expansive windows with “Low E” glass, wood floors and stain-resistant carpeting, outdoor balconies and terraces, 100 amp electrical service, individually controlled heating and cooling, solid-core entry doors, and brushed chrome hardware throughout. The kitchens feature flat panel cabinets, granite countertops, islands, built-in microwave ovens, disposals, and 7-inch-deep double-bowl stainless steel sinks. The bathrooms offer cultured marble vanity tops, custom wood cabinets, designer ceramic tile, chrome single-lever faucets, and soaking tubs. Prices start in the low $200’s and deliveries are slated spring of 2008.
Not to be outdone by the interiors, the building proper boasts stunning lake and city sightlines, an attractive contemporary lobby with circular driveway, a modern façade, a fully outfitted exercise facility, a landscaped outdoor terrace with grilling area and sundeck, and indoor bicycle storage. Indoor parking is also available. The location itself is very desirable, putting 1555 dwellers close to all manner of shopping, dining, and entertaining choices, all of them among the best Chicago has to offer. There is also easy access to the lakefront and the Museum Campus. The project is attracting many different types of buyers, from first-time buyers looking for a great value to experienced homeowners looking for a second spot in the city. |
